Personal Statement

It is a distinct honor for me to practice, teach and conduct research in Renal Pathology and serve as the Chief of the division, in the Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine at the New York-Presbyterian Hospital and Weill Cornell Medical College, New York.nbsp; My training and longtime association with Dr. Jacob Churg (one of the founding fathers of Renal Pathology) has been a rewarding experience.nbsp; Renal Pathology, as practiced in the academic setting, is a unique opportunity, where a significant depth of knowledge across the disciplines of Pathology, Nephrology, Rheumatology and Transplantation is required, while keeping up with new developments.nbsp; This is also a subspecialty dealing with medical diseases of the kidney, which often bridges the gap between basic and clinical sciences.nbsp; The wide variety of case material and consult cases received in our laboratory affords considerable expertise to become familiar, even some of the uncommonly occurring diseases in the kidney.nbsp; All kidney specimens are processed completely and efficiently by highly technical staff, using light, electron and immunofluorescence microscopy, to yield the most information.nbsp; In addition to diagnosis, prognositic information is obtained for appropriate therapy and management, which directly impacts on quality of patient care.
